Signage and symbols frequent Halsey's sculptures and emphasize her appreciation of the real-world aesthetics generated by her South Central, Los Angeles community.

Lauren Halsey's (b. 1987) practice spans mixed-media, sculpture, and installations, informed by her architectural background. She studied at the California Institute of the Arts and received her MFA from Yale University in 2014. Halsey held a residency at the Studio Museum from 2014 - 2015. After her participation in the Hammer Museum's Made in L.A. biennial in 2018, she was awarded the Mohn Award for Artistic Excellence. She has held solo exhibitions at the Museum of Contemporary Art, Los Angeles; the Foundation Louis Vitton, Paris; and the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston. Her work as been acquired by the Institute of Contemporary Art, Miami; the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston; the Hammer Museum, Los Angeles; the Columbus Museum of Art, Ohio; and the Museum of Contemporary Art, Los Angeles.
